Winter is coming…
But instead of an ominous sign of impending doom in a certain TV series, we’re thinking pumpkin spice lattes, bonfire night, Christmas decorations and those cosy fluffy feet warmers.
And, like your coffee, some of you (or your clients) might be looking to spice up the home to match the seasonal vibe.
In this blog, we’ve come up with some ideas to refresh soft furnishings that’ll keep interiors looking stylish not just for winter, but for the upcoming year, too.
Earthy Tones
Current design trends are all about bringing nature indoors with warm, early colour palettes.
Nature inspired greens such as forest and eucalyptus bring that grounded, luxurious feel, but if you’d prefer a retro vibe, terracotta will bring bundles of warmth and personality.
For accents, golden yellows such as ochre can attract the eye and light up a room, for a sunshine feeling even on grey days.
For those who want to create relaxing and minimalist atmosphere, warm, creamy shades of white will give that sense of serenity without the space feeling sterile (because no one wants their living room to feel like a hospital waiting area!)

Warm Metallics
Whether it’s light fixtures, frames or door handles, warm metals like brass, bronze and gold are sweeping interiors — and for good reason! They’re a fabulous way to make features stand out, and they can add a luxurious feel to your space.
Choosing a curtain pole in one of these colours can instantly add a touch of sophistication to a window. Matching the pole to other metallic features in the space is a simple way to make a space feel coordinated and elegant.

Layers!
This is probably quite self-explanatory, but using layers can add depth, texture and character to any space.
Simply adding a curtain to a window with a blind will provide an extra sprinkle of style and keep in that precious heat.
With this option, you can also remove the curtain in Spring to give your home a lighter feel without spending a penny!

Retro Patterns
Just as colours like ochre and terracotta have sprung onto the scene, it’s no surprise to see the return of retro patterns.
In particular, geometric and check patterns have become popular: check can evoke a sense of nostalgia and bring life to a space without feeling overly dramatic, while geometric patterns can add bursts of boldness without overwhelming a space.
For curtains and blinds, these patterns work great against subtle backdrops to really make your windows stand out.

Floral Patterns
If you hadn’t already guessed from the colour theme above, nature-inspired patterns are as popular as ever. Floral and botanical patterns evoke a sense of grounded-ness and connection to the outdoors (without the rain or the cold!)
Floral patterns can also be surprisingly versatile. Despite its association with cottage-core or more maximalist design themes, juxtaposing flowery patterns with contemporary pieces can add intrigue. For example, you can make a statement with one or two floral pieces whilst keeping a contemporary look for the rest of the space — so you don’t necessarily have to go all out!

textures
In contrast to the plains that defined the 2010s, this decade is embracing texture. Velvet has been dominating interiors this year due to its luxurious appearance and its usefulness as an accent colour against neutral backgrounds.
Likewise, linen has been making a comeback for its relaxed, minimalist feel that adds just enough texture to bring warmth to a space.
Wool can work wonders during the Autumn and Winter seasons due to its insulating fabric and eco-friendly properties (wool is fully bio-degradable and it doesn’t rely on chemical treatment in production)
Mixing and matching a variety of textures is a simple but incredibly effective way to make a space feel coordinated and full of character — showcasing personality without looking clumsy. One of my favourite ways to mix texture is by combining linen and velvet: for example, velvet upholstery with a linen curtain can balance a space nicely whilst looking intentional.

To conclude:
In short, warm, nature inspired themes with hints of nostalgia and bursts of glowing elegance are the key ingredients to choosing window furnishings that are ready for the chilly season and set to remain on trend for a while yet.
